Bladed Fury brings Chinese fantasy platforming to console March 25

    Game News

The console version of Bladed Fury has a release date: NExT Studios’ “classic Chinese fantasy 2D action game” launches on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 25. Bladed Fury draws on Chinese history, mythology, and traditional art to create what looks to be a unique, exciting action platformer.

Taking place in the early days of China’s Warring States period (not to be confused with the Three Kingdoms period that came later), Bladed Fury follows the exiled Princess Ji on a journey to get revenge for the murder of her father and take back her kingdom. With the help of ancient deities like Hou Yi and Jingwei, Ji gains the power to see her mission through, with a mix of fast-paced, combo-centric combat and action platforming.

The game originally came out on PC in 2018, meeting with a warm response at the time. The console version of Bladed Fury is coming out in both digital and physical formats, with pre-orders open now on the Nintendo Switch eShop and select retailers (PlayStation Store and Xbox Store pages will go live at a later date). Launch Edition retail copies will include a voucher for a digital soundtrack, while eShop pre-orders have a 10% discount.

Here’s an overview of Bladed Fury, from its Steam page:

This is a classic Chinese fantasy 2D action game, based on Chinese history, mythology with a dash of surrealism in the mix.

    Story background

At the beginning of the Warring States Period, Tian, an officer under Duke Kang of Qi, set a trap that killed the Duke, exiled Ji, the younger princess, and put Shu, the elder princess, under house arrest. This event established the Tian family as the ruler of Qi.

Ji tried to seek justice, but failed repeatedly. During her journey, she encountered ancient deities like Hou Yi and Jingwei, who helped her obtain the powers of Soul Slivers, and eventually returned to the Palace to finish what she started.

As the dust settled, Ji realized this was the beginning of a new world…

    Features

    – Unique art style with mysterious Chinese elements.
    – Fluid combat experience and style that’s easy to learn but difficult to master.
    – The Soul Sliver system adds depth and changes the pace, making combat more exciting.

NExT Studios is based in Shanghai, China with an impressive and varied portfolio, including the likes of Biped, Iris.Fall, Crown Trick, and many other games. The studio is also currently working on Metal Revolution, a fighting game designed around minimalist controls, and SYNCED: Off-World, a “PVPVE” sci-fi shooter, both of which are due out later this year.
