If you want to try out Warcave’s upcoming turn-based strategy RPG Black Legend ahead of its release next year, you’re in luck: there’s now a free demo for it on Steam.
The demo covers the first hour or so of the Black Legend, giving players a look at some of the early early classes, weapons, quests, and enemies players will encounter in the game. It’s the same demo that was previously available as part of the Steam Game Festival: Autumn Edition, but now available to all without the festival’s limited play period.
“The reaction we had from strategy fans during the festival was amazing. Seeing fans of the genre dive into the game and experience this small slice of it for the first time was a huge morale boost to the studio,” says Black Legend‘s creative director and lead designer, Menno van der Heijden. “Between our community Discord and Steam, we’ve received a lot of great feedback about the game, but what we’ve been hearing most is ‘This game looks great, I wish I hadn’t missed out on the demo during the festival’ and the best way to fix that is to well, make it available to everyone.”
Warcave have also released a new developer diary for Black Legend, offering a look at some of the key focus points of the game: meaningful exploration, strategic combat without an over-reliance on random elements, and how these things work together.
Black Legend is a turn-based strategy RPG set in Grant, a 17th century city based on the architecture of the Low Countries of Northwestern Europe. An alchemy system based on humorism plays a big focus, as does free exploration and careful pre-combat preparation to give yourself the upper hand.
Black Legend is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC in Q1 2021.
