Following its launch on Nintendo Switch and PC last year, Bandai Namco is bringing Doraemon Story of Seasons to PlayStation 4 on September 4, 2020.
As you might guess from the title, Doraemon Story of Seasons is a crossover between Marvlous’ Story of Seasons farming RPG series and the Doraemon media franchise. As Nobita Nobi, you’ll nurture your new farm with the help of Doraemon, making use of the robotic cat’s gadgets to cultivate the land and grow crops. You’ll also be able to develop the town and form friendships with the locals—classic Story of Seasons stuff, but now with Doraemon and friends in tow.
Doraemon is one of the most recognisable and beloved characters in Japanese media. Since his first appearance in a self-titled manga that launched in 1970, he’s been in all manner of other comics, anime, games, and other media, and won numerous awards and accolades. Doraemon stories revolve around a robotic cat from the 22nd century, who travels back in time to the present day to help a young boy called Nobita Nobi.
Story of Seasons, meanwhile, is the English name for Bokujō Monogatari, the series that really kicked off the farming RPG genre. Bokujō Monogatari was previously known as Harvest Moon in the West, though for licensing and naming rights reasons, that name had to change. (There is still an ongoing Harvest Moon series published by Natsume, though it has no connection to Bokujō Monogatari.)
There’s another Story of Seasons game on the way this year for Switch, too: Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, a remake of a Game Boy Advance game from 2003. Between that, Doraemon Story of Seasons, indie efforts like Summer in Mara, and the Rune Factory 4 Special remake that’s already out, 2020 is shaping up to be a very good year for farming RPGs.
