El Shaddai: Ascension of Metatron is coming to PC

    Game News

Work is underway on a PC version of El Shaddai: Ascension of Metatron, a cult favourite action-adventure game that first came out in PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.

The game’s director, Sawaki Takeyasu, revealed a Steam port in a status update tweet a couple of days ago. Via Gematsu’s translation: “It’s currently in development, but since I imagine people would like to know its progress, I’d like to share its status from time to time. Also, since the hardware has changed from Xbox and PS3 to PC, we’re making things like a launcher that doubles as an options for switching between English and Japanese voice-overs and text.”

In another tweet, Takeyasu said that he hopes to be able to release the PC version in time for the game’s 10th anniversary in April next year, though no release date has been confirmed at this stage.

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is an action game that mixes lots of different genre influences, from 2D platforming to 3D exploration. It tells a story inspired by the apocryphal Book of Enoch that sees players, as Enoch, trying to recruit seven fallen angels in an effort to prevent a great flood from wiping out humankind. It inspired a dungeon RPG spinoff a couple of years ago in the very worthwhile The Lost Child.

The original release of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron was published by the now-defunct UTV Ignition Games, but Takeyasu obtained the rights to it in 2013. He’ll be publishing the Steam version under his own publishing label, Crim.
