El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron comes to Steam in mid-April 2021

    Game News

We’ve got a release window for the Steam version of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron: mid-April 2021.

Originally released in 2011, El Shaddai combines elements of action, platforming, and strategy to tell a story of fallen angels inspired by the apocryphal Book of Enoch. It was the directorial debut for Sawaki Takeyasu, who’d previously worked as a character designer on games like Devil May Cry and Ōkami, and became a cult favourite.

Takeyasu announced a PC version of El Shaddai last December, saying at the time that he was hoping to have it available in time for the original game’s 10th anniversary. April 28 is the anniversary date proper, so a mid-April Steam release keeps it squarely on track for that target.

The release window announcement also came with a few new screenshots, which you can see in the gallery below:

“The complexities and intricacies of El Shaddai can be seen, played and viewed on many levels, and enjoyment and satisfaction can be achieved by everyone,” said Takeyasu, “and more importantly each time you play and immerse yourself within the world you will see and maybe learn something new which will help you complete the journey!”

El Shaddai was originally developed by Ignition Tokyo and published by UTV Ignition Games, but Takeyasu’s Studio Crim obtained full rights to the property in 2013 after the publisher closed down. Since then, the world of El Shaddai has grown through a number of different manga and novel series, a spin-off game in The Lost Child, and even a coffee shop / art gallery in Shinjuku.

We’ll hopefully have a firm release date for the Steam version of El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron soon, but mid-April isn’t too far away. It’ll be good to have another chance to visit one of the more unique games of the PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 era.
