Magic school life sim Witchbrook looks gorgeous in new screens

    Game News

Chucklefish today released a handful of new screenshots for their upcoming magic school-themed life sim RPG Witchbrook, and it’s looking absolutely spellbinding (sorry, not sorry).

Witchbook sticks with the colourful, pixel-art aesthetic seen in Chucklefish’s previous games, Starbound and Wargroove. When it was first announced, early screens showed a flat 2D look; the new shots reveal a switch to an isometric perspective that really allows all the little details to pop. Just three screenshots—a potions classroom, a garden for growing magical reagents, and the outside of a cafe—reveal so much about the tone and style we can expect from Witchbrook. I’ve seen it described as “Stardew Valley meets Harry Potter“, which seems apt.

    Here’s the official description:

“Forge your own identity as a witch-in-training on the road to graduation. Build relationships with fellow students and townsfolk, develop your magical abilities by attending classes and completing assignments. Participate in extracurricular activities such as fishing, growing magical crops and foraging strange mushrooms. Master secret spells, make friends for life and unravel the mysteries of the school…”

Platforms and a release window are yet to be announced, and the developer says expects it to still be a while away. According to the Witchbrook FAQ page, “Chucklefish are proud to be a zero-crunch studio. This does mean that development will take longer than some people may be used to, but we truly believe that developers who are healthy and well-rested make better games!”

Whenever it does finally come out, I know I’ll be jumping on it in a heartbeat—and I’m sure I’m not the only one.
