A Street Fighter 6 has long seemed inevitable (Street Fighter V is six years old now!), and speculation about its development has been rife for a while. But with a reveal at the final of the Capcom Pro Tour 2021, it’s finally official: Street Fighter 6 is real.
That said, the teaser really doesn’t give much away. Ryu returns, of course, and American MMA fighter Luke Sullivan—the final DLC addition to Street Fighter V—also makes an appearance. Everything else remains a mystery at this stage, but we’ll find out more about the game, its roster, and release plans in due course. For now, just enjoy the trailer:
For something more concrete, Capcom also unveiled Capcom Fighting Collection, an anthology of 10 classic fighting games that’s making its way to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It includes all five Darkstalkers games (Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge, Vampire Saviour: The Lord of Vampire, Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers’ Revenge, and Vampire Saviour 2: The Lord of Vampire), Hyper Street Fighter II: Anniversary Edition, Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness, and Red Earth.
That last one is particularly noteworthy, as this will be the first time it’s ever been ported to any other platform—right now, the only legal way to play Red Earth is to find it in an arcade (good luck!). It’s one of the more interesting projects out of the CPS3 era, too, with an RPG style single-player mode taking centre stage and versus mode being more of a secondary feature. The collection will come with all the usual extras, like a concept art gallery, support for save states and other such quality-of-life features, and online multiplayer with rollback netcode.
Capcom Fighting Collection will be available June 24, and you’ll also be able to buy a bundle that includes both it and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.
And finally, while we’re on the Street Fighter news train, this weekend Capcom unveiled a collaboration with Magic: The Gathering, as part of a limited edition Secret Lair release. The Secret Lair x Street Fighter set includes eight cards, based on each of the original World Warriors from Street Fighter II, with new artwork and attacks based on their signature moves. Pre-orders are available from now until March 18, ahead of a July 29 release date, and will set you back USD $49.99 for the foil set or USD$39.99 for non-foil.
