The Lightbringer is a heartfelt puzzle platformer coming to Switch and PC

    Game News

Fans of heartwarming, colourful platformers have something new to look forward to: The Lightbringer, a charming-looking game that sees you exploring diorama-like levels on a quest to cleanse the world of corruption, coming to Switch and PC later this year.

According to Zordix Publishing’s announcement, “The Lightbringer‘s gameplay is all about exploring the detailed, bite-sized levels full of challenges and collectibles. Find and gather the Light Motes scattered across the cleverly designed stages and cleanse the corrupted monolith at the end of each one to complete them.” A boomerang is your best friend, coming in handy for both solving puzzles and dealing with enemies.

This is all in the course of a journey to restore power to the ancient monoliths that the world once relied upon—until one clan’s greed awakened something malicious and caused the monoliths to be covered in a tar-like corruption. Legend tells of a Lightbringer who can harness the power of light; when your sister is chosen to play this role but goes missing, it’s left to you to follow in her footsteps and try to bring her home, cleansing the corruption along the way. It promises to be a “heartfelt story, voiced in verse end-to-end”.

The Lightbringer is being created by Rock Square Thunder, a Polish indie studio established by a trio of Bloober Team developers who worked together on the likes of Layers of Fear, The Blair Witch Project, The Observer, and The Medium. It started as a solo side project by ?ukasz Kudziela in 2015, before he was joined by Artur Wiecheć and Janusz Tarczykowski; in 2021, the team has grown to nine people.

A partnership with Zordix Publishing saw the The Lightbringer go into full production in 2020, with plans for a launch on Nintendo Switch and PC later this year.
