The excellent Dragon Quest Builders 2 is now on Xbox Game Pass

    Xbox One

Xbox players can finally get their hands on one of the best iterations of the building game genre that Minecraft popularised, with Dragon Quest Builders 2 now available on Xbox One, both through Xbox Game Pass and as an individual download.

Essentially, Dragon Quest Builders combines the block-based construction and exploration of Minecraft with Dragon Quest monsters, character designs, art style, world, and storytelling, with some action RPG flavour thrown into the mix. It’s the best parts of each influence, in other words, combined into something that takes the block-building genre to a wonderful place.

The first game isn’t available on Xbox, but Dragon Quest Builders 2 is the one that really fine-tuned those ideas, while also expanding on the storytelling, worldbuilding, multiplayer capabilities, and sheer volume of stuff there is to craft and build. It was already available on Steam, but Xbox version is also playable on PC through Xbox Play Anywhere. If you’ve got Game Pass, this is something you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

Aside from Dragon Quest Builders 2, Game Pass is keeping up its steady stream of JRPGs this month with Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster (just as Final Fantasy IX leaves the service). Just Cause 4: Reloaded, Steep, and Tim Schafer’s cult favourite Psychonauts are also on the way, and well worth checking out.
